How does this quote jive with this one: "You need not only the atonement of Jesus Christ – but the quickening, sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, to make you a true Christian, and deliver you from hell."

Why is that a yikes? Seems completely biblical to me (John 3:4-8). The atonement made the Spirit's indwelling possible (Titus 3:4-7).

it's a yikes because if being saved depends on getting the holy spirit to indwell you, then i can do absolutely nothing to be saved.
ReplyDeleteto trust christ is one thing. you can preach the gospel to yourself and attempt to rest in that, but the holy spirit is not inside me, and i do not know how to get him there.
